MOMENTS MATTER

Do moments really matter? I wonder, do they last?

Just ask the woman at the well who'd had a troubled past.

Ask Bartimaeus of that Moment Jesus touched his eyes

Or the lame man just what happened when Jesus said " Arise"

Yes, moments really matter. It still is true today.

Nightmares are replaced with dreams, and we can lead the way.

Joey told his counselor, "I'm stupid, dumb and fat."

When questioned why he felt that way, "My mother told me that."

"She said I was a big mistake, and wished I'd been aborted."

"His past was tragic, future dim," his case worker reported,

At camp Joe was amazed, at all the fun and games.

Just lots of food and Breakfast Club and no one called him names.

While at the pool he told Grandpa, "I learned to fish today".

"And guess what else I learned Grandpa? Last night I learned to pray.

In a moment Joey's life was changed. A life that had been shattered.

And once again I found it true these Moments really mattered.

Helen Keller

Helen Keller made an incredible statement when she said,

" Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it."

Sometimes all we see is the suffering. Children's hollowed looks, dim eyes, turned down frowns ... scars on their legs from being whipped with a bicycle chain ... scars of burns on their flesh. Suffering is all around us ... the world is full of it, but we need to hear the words of Helen Keller, "it is also full of the overcoming of it."

That's what we do … together, we plant the seeds of an overcoming spirit in children's hearts and minds.
